I was born in Los Angeles in 1967.  I came to rural Humboldt County, California, in 1987 for what was only supposed to have been a year. Instead, I stayed long enough to finish a BA in language studies and anthropology from Humboldt State University.  I then went to the Midwest for graduate school, returning to Humboldt County before completing an MA in linguistics.  Intending to leave again to finish my degree, I filled some time taking a few art classes at HSU. I began to realize that the artwork that I’d been doing on my own for many years—my first and true love—might be worth pursuing more seriously.  I wound up abandoning linguistics to do art and decided to stay on the rural Northwest Coast of California.

I first visited the United Kingdom in the early 90's, and have returned on occasion to see friends and colleagues and to photograph the underground stations and parks that were to become such an important part of my work. I've also spent time at the British Museum studying a majority of Mrs. Delany's original "paper mosaicks." Recently I haven't been travelling much, but that connection keeps pulling me back in all sorts of ways.

My paper mosaic collages have won awards, been in gallery and museum shows on the West and East coasts, and have been featured and published nationally in the US. Several of my pictures are also catalogued with the Bridgeman Art Library. Increasingly my work has been evolving from the paper mosaic realm into artist's books and more sculptural things. (These will be added to a new site that's being put together. Please check back.)

I live with my husband and our cats on the far northern Redwood Coast of California.  I enjoy spending time with my carnivorous plant garden, but spend as much time as I can in my studio, which I call Zebra Crossing Picture Factory.
